Austin, TEXAS Feb. 21, 2020 — Today, Jolt Action announces its unanimous endorsement of Senator Bernie Sanders for U.S. President. The Jolt Action Endorsement Committee, made up of staff leadership and members of Jolt student chapters, reviewed survey responses from the majority of the presidential candidates for the Democratic nominee for President of the United States, and voted unanimously to endorse Senator Sanders.
“I am proud to be endorsed by Jolt Action. Together, we will fight for working people across Texas and the country and build a powerful multi-racial, multi-generational movement to achieve justice for all,” Sanders said.
Through his decades of public service, Sen. Sanders has proven that he stands with the everyday, working class people of the U.S. He has fought tirelessly for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, immigration reform and the elimination of student debt. The senator prioritizes the issues young Latinos care about, and fights to protect communities of color. Sanders is running for president to build a movement of millions of people capable of achieving economic, racial, social and environmental justice for all.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sanders worked as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker before he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Under his leadership, the city made notable progress in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts.
He was elected to the U.S. Senate after 16 years as Vermont’s only congressperson in the House of Representatives. He is now in his third term as senator after winning his re-election in 2018 with 67 percent of the vote. Bernie has built a reputation for his commitment to working families and a determination to close the growing gap between the rich and everyone else.
The following is a statement from Jolt Action leadership:
“There is a strong progressive movement in Texas, and it’s being led by young, brown and black voters. In the next three years, Latinos will make up the largest percentage of the population in Texas. Our votes count more than ever and we are ready to transform Texas. Young voters are seeking bold and fearless leadership to deliver transformative change. The presidential candidate we see as having the strongest progressive agenda capable of delivering on all fronts is Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Sen. Sanders will address the inequalities in our society and fight for an economy, healthcare, and education systems that work for everyday Texans, not just the rich and privileged. Here in Texas, we are committed to turning out low-propensity voters to show up at the polls and support Bernie Sanders for president.”
