Austin, TX, Jan. 15, 2020 — Today, Jolt Action proudly endorses Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez for U.S. Senate.
Tzintzun Ramirez is running for U.S. Senate because she believes Texas can lead the nation into the future and it starts with the power of the people. A daughter of a Mexican immigrant and an entrepreneur, she was raised a proud Irish Mexican American and was exposed to two different worlds, where she learned that everyone wants their families to be safe, healthy and treated with respect.
In response to the 2016 election, she launched Jolt, an organization that fuses art, Latino culture and politics to innovate civic engagement and increase voter registration and participation.
The following statement is from Antonio Arellano, Interim Executive Director of Jolt Action:
“Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez is a bold, fearless and pioneering leader who realized early on the untapped potential of Latinos to help lead and transform Texas through civic engagement. Her organizing spirit continues to inspire the members and staff of Jolt Action, where we took on her torch after she stepped down to run for office, to realize our ambitious and critical goals such as ensuring every Texan is counted in the census and holding leaders at all levels accountable to the needs and issues confronting the Latino community. We must stand up and help Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez go to Washington to fight for the policies that represent the best interests of all Texans.”
Tzintzun Ramirez is a people’s candidate as evidenced by her priorities, such as ensuring every Texan has high-quality healthcare, building an economy that creates millions of good jobs and positions Texas as a leader in global transition towards a green future, protecting the rights of immigrant families and communities of color, and ensuring every Texan that wants to attend college, can do so without accruing debt.
She wants her two-year-old son Santi to understand that against the greatest odds, communities came together and worked hard to make his life and that of other children better.
“Right now we have a president who thinks the rules don’t apply to him. That means we’re fighting for the very survival of our democracy,” Tzintzun Ramirez said. “We can’t end this fight now — Trump must be removed from office in order to preserve the rule of law and protect our democracy from a would-be tyrant.”
“I am so proud to have the endorsement of Jolt Action’s members from across the state,” Tzintzun Ramirez said. “As the founder of Jolt, I know that this endorsement means that Jolt Action’s leaders will push me and other candidates to deliver real change for Latinos and working people across Texas. These young men and women represent the future leaders of our state. Together we will flip Texas in 2020 and make young people’s voices heard.”
