Austin, TX, Jan. 15, 2020 — Today, Jolt Action endorsed Dr. John Biggan to represent Texas’ 24th District in the United States House of Representatives.
Born in San Antonio and raised in El Paso, Dr. Biggan has built on the values instilled in him as an Eagle Scout, to dedicate decades of his life fighting to improve communities and bettering the lives of those around him.
The following statement is from Antonio Arellano, Interim Executive Director of Jolt Action:
“Dr. John Biggan is the type of bold leader who will take the state in the direction it needs to treat all Texans fairly. His priorities such as addressing climate change, student debt, decriminalizing unauthorized border crossings and expanding Medicaid in Texas reflect the same priorities that our Jolt youth members fight for every day. We must stand up and help John Biggan go to Washington to fight for the policies that represent the best interests of all Texans.”
Dr. Biggan, who aims to become the first neuroscientist in Congressional history, wants to bring scientifically-sound, evidence-based policy back to the U.S. Congress and to his constituents in TX-24. He has worked to slow the effects of aging in older adults and improving techniques to better match foster children with foster families.
His campaign has also prioritized its engagement with Latino voters, including by providing campaign materials in Spanish.
“We are concentrating our outreach efforts into areas with a high proportion of Latinos, especially those with below-average voter turnout rates,” Biggan said. “We have also focused on issues that impact younger voters, including young Latinos, such as college affordability, universal healthcare, and climate change along with other important pieces of legislation, like the DREAM Act, including a pathway to citizenship.”
Biggan is honored to have Jolt Action’s endorsement.
“Jolt is leading the charge to engage progressive Latino voters across Texas and we could not be more grateful for their support. I wholeheartedly agree that our democracy and community thrive when all voices are heard and everyone has a seat at the table,” Biggan said. “The Latino community has been essential in growing our economy, keeping our communities safe and are part of the foundation that has led to so many Democratic victories both in Texas and across the country. Our campaign is proud to have made concentrated outreach efforts within this vital community that is too often ignored.”
