Austin, TX, Jan. 15, 2020 — Today, Jolt Action proudly endorses Tom Ervin to represent Texas House District 108.
Ervin has lived and worked in District 108 for more than 30 years. He says he has spent most of his career bringing together the two political parties and leading them to common ground to successfully close deals. He says this is the kind of relevant experience needed to solve the complex problems facing Texas lawmakers. He is determined to create positive change for the people in HD 108.
The following statement is from Antonio Arellano, Interim Executive Director of Jolt Action:
“Tom Ervin is all about leading with grace, integrity and dignity. This is the kind of leader that is sorely needed in Texas and Jolt Action is proud to endorse. From supporting federal student loan forgiveness and decriminalizing unauthorized border crossings, to advocating for Medicaid expansion and addressing climate change as both an energy and infrastructure issue, Ervin knows the priorities at the core of every Texan. We must stand up and help Tom Ervin go to the Texas House to fight for the policies that represent the best interests of all Texans.”
Among those top issues is leading the charge on a climate change plan to address environmental racism. He believes an intersectional approach to environmental justice includes creating mixed-income housing throughout cities so there aren’t concentrations of low-income housing, thereby ensuring pollutant-emitting plants aren’t targeting lower income neighborhoods during construction.
He also has a plan to assist the transition of current oil and gas workers to a net zero emissions economy.
“As someone who has worked within the oil and gas industry and as a person with a degree in geology and an MBA, I have a unique set of skills and industry knowledge that will be valuable to our transition to green energy sources,” Ervin said. “There are many small business owners who work within oil and gas as well as thousands of workers who are employed in the industry who rely on those jobs to provide for themselves and their families, but would transition to green energy jobs if provided. I will work closely with these small businesses as well as employees of the oil and gas industry to secure vocational and retraining programs that will help them transition to green energy jobs while minimizing job losses.”
Ervin is honored to have Jolt Action’s endorsement.
“I am honored and proud to have earned this endorsement from Jolt Action. I am dedicated to finding just and intersectional ways of tackling the issues in our state, and I am looking forward to working with community advocates, organizers, and elected officials take our vision and our voice to Austin. Thank you so much; let’s get to work!”
