Austin, TX, Jan. 15, 2020 — Today, Jolt Action proudly endorses Wendy Davis to represent Texas’ 21st District in the United States House of Representatives.
Davis represented the 10th District, the third most populous county in Texas, in the Texas Senate from 2009 to 2015 after pulling an upset against the incumbent Republican in 2008. On June 25, 2013, she propelled into the spotlight for her stunning 10-hour filibuster of Senate Bill 5, an abortion restriction bill raising abortion clinic standards to impractical levels.
The following statement is from Antonio Arellano, Interim Executive Director of Jolt Action:
“Wendy Davis represents the future of Texas and America that our organization is collectively fighting for. She stands for people of color, for women and for anyone who has ever been oppressed by corrupt leadership. She is bold, courageous and a fighter. We must stand up and help Wendy Davis go to Washington to fight for the policies that represent the best interests of all Texans.”
From prioritizing Medicaid for Texans, public school funding, to working to pass comprehensive immigration reform and supporting a carbon-free plan by 2040, Davis has an eye and a strategy for a healthier, happier and ultimately, more prosperous future for all Texans.
“I’ve run some tough races, some I’ve won and some I’ve lost. One thing I’ve learned from every single one is that if you want to represent a community, everyone matters and you’ve got to show up for everyone,” she said. “We are engaging with constituents in the Latino community, and working with a core team of Hispanic advisors and staffers to help us increase our outreach and engagement of Latino voters. I am also proud to have founded a non-profit, Deeds Not Words, that has actively worked to engage young women in political and policy change.”
“I’m honored to partner with Jolt Action to build a coalition that reflects our diverse and growing Latino community in Texas’ 21st Congressional District. Together, we’re going to give voice to the thousands of Texans who have been forgotten, and worse, ignored, by politicians in Washington like Chip Roy. Texans don’t quit on each other, and that’s why I won’t stop fighting until we deliver lower health care costs, safer schools, and a future our grandbabies can thrive in.”
