TEXAS — On Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the start of an impeachment inquiry of President Trump.
The following is a statement from Antonio Arellano, interim executive director of Jolt Action, a Texas Latino voter organization:
“Our Latino community has been on the receiving end of President Donald Trump’s vicious and racist rhetoric since day one. Latinos in Texas have been sounding the alarm — he is unfit to serve, lacks the moral compass required to be president, and is intellectually incapable of overseeing our nation’s foreign affairs.
Jolt Action supports the impeachment inquiry into President Trump and calls on all Texas state representatives in the U.S. House and Senate to do the same. Our elected officials must put partisanship aside and prioritize our American democracy. No one is above the law.
As a civic engagement organization, we recognize that President Trump is a threat to our democracy. On this National Voter Registration Day, young Latinos are registering Texans to vote at one of Jolt’s many voter registration events in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, and on college campuses and universities all across Texas. They will remember this moment and recognize those who have the courage to do what’s right.
Trump means to function above the law. He must be impeached.”
Jolt Action is the largest Latino progressive organization in Texas, focused on building the political power and growing the influence of young Latinos.
