Austin, TX, Jan. 15, 2020 — Today, Jolt Action proudly endorses Paige Dixon to represent Texas House District 65.
Dixon is a community leader, two-tour Iraq War veteran, mother of two and resident of District 65. She is running for office because she believes Texas needs more empathetic and effective leaders. She wants to improve education, healthcare and support for working families.
From ensuring every Texan has access to affordable healthcare and that housing is more affordable, to ensuring everyone is paid a living wage and provided a debt-free education, Paige Dixon’s values align with Jolt Action’s priorities. They are the same values our youth members fight for every day in their communities across Texas.
She wants to address the dangers communities of color face as a result of climate change and the disparities they are subjected to in the public school system.
“I am a PTA president at a minority-majority Title I school and see first-hand how children of color from certain socioeconomic backgrounds are being underserved in the same district where non children of color thrive,” Dixon said. “I am working in my own school to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline epidemic. For-profit prisons are an incentive to those who seek to profit from mass incarceration to continue targeting citizens and fill their bank accounts.”
Dixon is honored to have Jolt Action’s endorsement.
“Thank you, Jolt Action, for your endorsement. I am running a grassroots, people-powered campaign. It is my mission to represent all the people of my district, and I am proud to stand with Jolt Action in supporting the Latinx community,” Dixon said. “The majority of our district is made up of people of color, and I look forward to helping create opportunities by building a democracy that represents everyone and uplifts the marginalized.”
