Movimiento 2020 Candidate Forum brings young Texas Latino voters together before Super Tuesday

TEXAS — This weekend, hundreds of Latino youth from across Texas convened in Pasadena at the Movimiento 2020 Candidate Forum to hold Democratic candidates running for office at the highest U.S. and Texas government levels accountable to the issues that most concern this key voting demographic. These young leaders are the heart and soul of Jolt Action and represent the future of the progressive movement in Texas.

“Latino youth are the future of Texas politics, and the issues important to them are destined to become table stakes for politicians running in the future. The turnout and reception to Movimiento 2020 proved that,” said Jolt Action Interim Executive Director Antonio Arellano. “We’re proud to have hosted this forum in which Latino youth could engage with candidates on the issues that matter most to them. The students and youth representing nearly 30 chapters and cities in Texas, were bold and fearless with their questions, and we’re excited to see this momentum carry into Super Tuesday.”

The following 2020 candidates answered questions from our Jolt student chapter and youth members, our partnering organizations and our interim executive director on key issues, including education, healthcare, student debt, climate change, gun control, racial equity and equal rights:

  • Bernie Sanders, Presidential Candidate
  • Tom Steyers, Presidential Candidate
  • Dr. Roland Garcia on behalf of Amy Klobuchar, Presidential Candidate
  • Rep. Victoria Neave on behalf of Joe Biden, Presidential Candidate
  • Julieta Garibay on behalf of Elizabeth Warren, Presidential Candidate
  • Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez, US Senatorial Candidate
  • John Biggan, Texas Congressional Candidate
