Jolt Action and Jolt Initiative welcomes new Director of Communications

Communications veteran Antonio Luján joins non-profit at Austin office

Austin, TX  – Jolt Action and Jolt Initiative welcomes Antonio Luján as new Director of
Communications to join efforts in leading the largest state-wide Latino progressive non-
profit.

Antonio has a long history of communications and public affairs positions in previous roles
and has been in the industry for 16 years. He most recently followed the legislature and
planned community events for the Office of Community and Public Affairs at Austin
Community College.

“We are excited to bring strong talent to Jolt with Antonio’s varied experience in the
communications space as we usher in crisp messaging that resonates with our members
and partners,” said Diana Maldonado, Interim Executive Director.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 he began working at various
news stations in both the general news market and Spanish language news. He was
recognized by the Utah Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) with 1st place in Minority
Issues Reporting after going undercover as a day laborer in Salt Lake City for ABC 4.
Antonio’s Spanish language reporting in South Texas was featured on Univision’s Primer
Impacto and Edición Nocturna while at a duopoly station (KNVO/XRIO) in McAllen, Texas.

“I am humbled to have been invited to join the Jolt Action and Jolt Initiative civic
engagement team. I have always been drawn to entities that strive to improve opportunities
for underrepresented people, and as a first-generation Latino in Texas, I certainly see
myself adding my part in that movement,” said Luján. “Latinos will be the largest ethnic
group in Texas by 2024, but their voices have been shut out in many high-level state
positions. It is time to give everyone a seat at the table.”
