Jolt Action endorses Rochelle Garza for Texas Attorney General

Jolt Action is endorsing Rochelle Garza for Texas Attorney General, in our first endorsement of the 2022 election cycle. It is time to elect the first Latina attorney general in Texas history, and Rochelle Garza has the values and experience necessary to lead our state forward. We encourage everyone to vote for Rochelle Garza in the May 24th runoff election.

“As a 5th generation Texan, a new mom and civil rights attorney, I know what is at stake. I decided to run for Texas Attorney General to fight for Texas families and focus on the issues that will create a better future for all of our children,” said Garza in a statement.

Garza’s story is an inspiration for young Latinos who do not often see people like them running for statewide office. She was born to two public school teachers who raised her in Brownsville, Texas. When she grew up, Garza became a civil rights lawyer and fought for the rights of children, immigrants, and families. Garza also worked as a lawyer for the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). With proven experience and a policy platform that centers the issues impacting Latino communities, Rochelle Garza is the best candidate for Texas Attorney General.

Jolt Action Executive Director Gloria Gonzales-Dholakia said, “Jolt Action is proud to endorse Rochelle Garza in her historic campaign to become the first female and Latina Texas Attorney General. Right now, the rights of so many Texans are under attack by our Attorney General’s office. That’s why we’re proud to support Rochelle Garza, a strong, progressive Latina leader Texans can count on to protect our rights and transform the Attorney General’s office, so it works for all Texans, not just the rich and powerful.”

In a statement, Garza said, “I am honored to receive the support of Jolt Action and stand together as we work for a better and more representative state government. Indicted Ken Paxton is corrupt, a bully, and simply unfit for office.”

Garza is running in the Democratic primary runoff on May 24th. If she wins that election, Garza will move forward to face either Ken Paxton or George P. Bush, who are also in a runoff on the Republican side. In her legal career, Rochelle Garza has already beaten Ken Paxton in court, and she is the best candidate to beat Paxton or Bush at the ballot box in November.
