Jolt Action Statement on Supreme Court's Immigration Enforcement Ruling

scotus

The Supreme Court’s ruling to stay Judge Frimpong’s crucial ruling that protected millions of Latinos from discriminatory immigration enforcement practices, is a direct attack on the Latino community. This dangerous decision effectively enables racial profiling and undermines the basic civil rights of Latino communities across the nation.

This decision allows ICE agents to continue using factors such as speaking Spanish, having an accent, or working in certain occupations as grounds for immigration stops. This practice doesn’t just target undocumented immigrants – it creates a climate of fear and suspicion that affects all Latinos, regardless of immigration status.

“When ICE agents can stop someone based on the color of their skin, occupation, or speaking Spanish, this ruling goes beyond protecting public safety – it’s a direct attack on Latinos and it enables discriminatory practices,” said Jackie Bastard, Executive Director of Jolt Action. “This ruling threatens the constitutional rights of millions of Latinos across the country who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”

This decision is particularly alarming as it sets a dangerous precedent that could embolden even further discriminatory practices nationwide, effectively forcing Latino communities to live in fear of being profiled and detained while going about their daily lives.

Jolt Action demands the immediate end to practices that violate the constitutional rights of Latinos. No one should face discrimination or have their citizenship questioned based on their ethnicity, language, or cultural identity.

We will continue to fight against policies that criminalize our communities and advocate for the dignity and rights of all Latinos.
