At a time when many Texans are suffering from an unprecedented natural disaster, Governor Abbott has chosen to prioritize a partisan power grab through redistricting. This calculated move to redraw district lines is a direct attack on the Latino voting power and is an attempt to silence our communities.

The timing of this addition to the special session agenda is no coincidence – it’s a deliberate strategy to dilute minority voting strength before crucial elections. While our communities need real leadership and support, our Governor is instead focused on manipulating district lines to maintain political control. This blatant gerrymandering is an assault on democracy and we will not tolerate it. 

This is more than just drawing lines on a map – it’s about undermining the fundamental right of Latino Texans to have their voices heard and their votes count. We at Jolt will continue to fight against these attempts to disenfranchise our communities of color and demand fair representation for all Texans.
