Austin, TX – June 12, 2025 – As attacks on Latinos escalate, Jolt Action stands steadfast in protecting our fundamental right to be heard. With the unfolding events in Los Angeles and across the country, we unequivocally condemn the attacks on our community.
Governor Abbott’s decision to deploy the Texas National Guard ahead of this weekend’s protests undermines the constitutional right of free speech and peaceful assembly protected by the First Amendment. Now is the time to raise our collective voice—to denounce injustice and to stand in unwavering solidarity during these turbulent times. We call on our elected officials to denounce this decision and protect their constituents.
Texas’ diversity is its greatest strength, and as a state where 1 out of every 6 Texans is an immigrant, we wholeheartedly recognize that immigrants make this country great. The criminalization of undocumented immigrants and the demonization of those who come to this country seeking a better future must end. We firmly reject hatred and fascism, and recognize that those seeking refuge and opportunity bring invaluable strength and vitality to our shared future.
To all planning to take part in this weekend’s demonstrations, your courage fuels the fight for a more just democracy. As you exercise your right to free speech, please take precautions and know your rights. Your voice is powerful. You are powerful.
