Jolt Action Applauds Supreme Court Decision Upholding Birthright Citizenship
Jolt Action celebrates the Supreme Court’s decision upholding birthright citizenship, affirming that no president has the authority to decide who belongs in America.
HOUSTON, Texas — Today’s Supreme Court decision on Birthright Citizenship preserves more than a century of constitutional precedent and sends a clear message that no president has the authority to decide who is worthy of being an American Citizen.
“Today’s decision is a victory for the Constitution, for immigrant families, and for every generation of Americans who believe that our rights cannot be erased by executive order,” said Jackie Bastard, Executive Director of Jolt Action. “Donald Trump’s attack on birthright citizenship was never about constitutional interpretation. It was about fear, exclusion, and redefining who belongs in this country. The Supreme Court made clear what has always been true: no president gets to decide who belongs in America.”
For years, immigrant communities have been the target of relentless political attacks designed to divide families and strip people of their dignity. The effort to eliminate birthright citizenship represented one of the most extreme attempts yet to undermine the Constitution and create uncertainty for millions of families across the country.
“The Fourteenth Amendment is not optional,” Bastard continued. “It ensures that citizenship could never be denied based on race, ancestry, or politics. Today’s decision protects generations of children from becoming pawns in a political agenda rooted in xenophobia.”
Texas is home to one of the nation’s largest immigrant populations and millions of young Latinos whose families have helped shape the state’s economy, culture, and future. Jolt Action remains committed to organizing young Texans to defend their rights and hold elected officials accountable when they attack immigrant communities.
“This victory belongs to every family that refused to be intimidated, every advocate who stood up for constitutional rights, and every young person who believes our democracy should include all of us,” Bastard said. “While today’s ruling is an important affirmation of our Constitution, our work is far from over. We will continue organizing until every Texan, regardless of where their family comes from, can live with dignity, opportunity, and the full protection of the law.”
